How to batch convert SRT to WebVTT

When you have several caption files to prepare, repeating the same conversion one file at a time adds unnecessary work. Subtitle Batch Desk applies one output format to a whole batch.

Try the complete workflow with three sample files

  1. Open Subtitle Batch Desk and select Load 3 sample files.
  2. Keep the output set to WebVTT (.vtt). Leave the timing shift at zero when you want to preserve timings.
  3. Select Convert batch. The results show each input file, the output name and its cue count.
  4. Select Download ZIP + report. Extract the ZIP to find the converted captions and conversion-report.csv.
  5. Inspect one converted file in your destination editor or player before using the whole batch.

What the conversion changes

For basic cues, our converter changes the timing separator to a period and adds the WEBVTT header. It retains caption text, including Unicode. This example begins as SRT:

1
00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,000
Hello, creators!

With WebVTT selected and a zero-second shift, the result is:

WEBVTT

00:00:01.000 --> 00:00:03.000
Hello, creators!

Formatting markup is retained as text. A destination player may interpret it differently, so format conversion alone does not guarantee identical visual presentation.

Bring your own files

Select UTF-8 files ending in .srt or .vtt. You can mix both source formats, but the batch has one output format. To create both formats, run two separate batches. Each output receives a numeric filename prefix so two files with the same original name do not overwrite each other in the exported ZIP.

Understand the report

The CSV report lists input file, output file, conversion status, cue count and error details. One broken file does not prevent other valid files from exporting. Repair failed inputs and run them again. CSV exports are designed to quote filenames and neutralize formula-like text; still treat files from other people as untrusted input.

Supported scope and limits

The free preview handles three files per batch. The optional offline desktop edition handles 100. Both limit individual files to 2 MB and a batch to 20 MB. WebVTT notes, styles, regions and positioning settings are rejected. This is not a caption translator, transcription service or video extractor. Files stay on your device during processing.

Need one file rather than a batch? Use the existing free single-file subtitle converter. For repeated larger batches, try the free preview before considering the desktop edition.

Try your next batch. Test three files at no cost, including ZIP and CSV export.
